Sacramental Life is an important part of the Catholic faith. there are  seven Sacraments based upon some aspect of Jesus’ life or teaching. Some of these Sacraments are received only once and some can be received over and over. Sacraments help us to nourish, strengthen and express own Christian Living.

St Brigid’s Parish runs a successful parish based sacramental program. The parent’s involvement in the preparation of each sacrament of Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation proves to be an opportunity to walk together with their children on their spiritual journey

The Sacraments can be divided into Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist. The Sacraments of Healing: Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick and Vocational  Sacraments: Matrimony and Holy Orders.

During the Sacraments of Initiation we enter into the life of the Trinity and become living members of God’s  family through which the life of the risen Christ flows and acts.

The Sacraments of Healing highlight the merciful nature of God and is continuing of the Ministry of Jesus.

The Vocational Sacraments allow us to express and share our faith and love with God either through Holy Orders or with another person through Marriage.

The Sacramental program for Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation at St Brigid’s is a parish based sacramental process that creates  special opportunities for parents to continue sharing their faith with their child. As parents you are most important educators of your child and it is important that the children experience their parents passing on the faith.

This means that parents are involved in preparing their children for the Sacraments through programs implemented and supported by the Parish Preparations includes an information evening for parents only and small group meetings in the homes to inquire and reflect  upon the faith into which the children are being initiated.

The home sessions are planned and prepared by the Sacramental team and a booklet is provided with set activities. the activities are designed for the parent and child to work together as part of a group under the guidance of a parent leader, and to continue the discussion and exercises at home.. Both parish and the family play their role in journeying with the children towards full initiation into the Church.
